Rumors swirled through the streets of Downtown San Diego throughout 2006 and 2007 as the soon-to-be Jade Theater venue on the north east end of the Gaslamp Quarter made slow but steady progress. Jade made a big entrance in late 2007 with Asian décor such as bamboo-infused translucent white walls filling the authentic Asian restaurant and lounge, a startling three-story interior, and a modern basement club with red accents and sassy cocktail servers with “Under Construction” trucker hats playfully mocking the continuous construction into 2008.
